The Smelliest Moms, The Prettiest Day Laborers: Best Of Queens, Mid-Year Edition
The Queens Ledger published its fiscal year-end Best Of List. Despite a few quibbles — “Busiest Subway Station” (Main Street 7 Train Station in Flushing) doesn’t connote “best” in my opinion — it’s relatively comprehensive. Some things I’ve never even contemplated include:
- “Library Branch With the Hippest CD Collection” (Flushing Branch)
- “Best Place To Hire a Day Laborer” (69th Street and Roosevelt)
- “Best Parking Lot” (Shea Stadium)
- “Best Place to Throw a Shopping Cart When You’re Done With It” (Flushing River Under the Roosevelt Avenue Bridge) (Flushing River also scores “Smelliest Waterway” bragging rights — again, not a “Best,” but no matter)
- “Prettiest Cemetery” (Flushing Cemetery) (Only in Queens, Kids, Only in Queens!)
- “Best Place to Meet a Mom Who Just Moved to Queens From Brooklyn” (Travers Park in Jackson Heights) (Ew!)
