I Have A Gub
Time was, bias crimes followed some — albeit twisted, internal — sort of logic. That’s not so much the case anymore:
Posted: April 14th, 2006 | Filed under: Law & OrderColumbia Public Safety has launched an investigation into an alleged bias incident after an administrator noticed a photograph of a potentially hateful item posted on a campus blog. According to an e-mail sent around noon by dean of student affairs Chris Colombo, a member of the office saw a picture posted on April 11 on the Bwog, a blog run by the monthly student publication Blue and White, which seemed to document an expression of hate. The photograph depicts several pieces of cracker, which many believe to be Matzo, tied to paper plates with rubber bands. The words “CHECK BREAD EVERYWHERE HERE” and “HOLES” are written in thick black felt-tip pen around the edges of the plates, along with a symbol resembling a swastika and the letters “BM.”
. . .
The original post, which did not suggest a bias incident, received a barrage of anonymous and signed responses. “Is that a swastika on there?” a poster initially asked, prompting over a hundred replies. . . . “For God’s sake, man, if you’re going to indulge in racist slander, be legible!” reads one of the latest [posts]. The University’s reaction, however, was no joke. A University spokesperson told the Spectator that “the University condemns such acts as inappropriate and unacceptable.”
