Posted: May 8th, 2006 | Filed under: QueensLess than a week after advocates began drumming up support to bring the World’s Fair back to New York, Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday he wasn’t interested.
“I was surprised that they still had World’s Fairs,” Bloomberg said on his weekly WABC radio show. “Last time I heard about one was 1964, Flushing Meadows Park.”
For the record, the last one was in Aichi, Japan; the next one will be in Zaragoza, Spain, in 2008, followed by Shanghai in 2010. When told they still exist, Bloomberg replied, “Mazel tov, if there’s private money that wants to do it.
“We’ve got other things to do,” he concluded.
