About The Clink
The Clink is a blog dedicated to the discussion of wine, beer, spirits, and all the people, places, and things that go along with them. This was true until February 2015, when Scott unilaterally decided to make The Clink also about cooking, in response to an idea Jen had about creating a binder for recipes that have worked, along with notes, for posterity. Scott’s notion was that since so much research is online, it makes more sense to compile links and notes online. The concept is a scrapbook, and as such is not primarily entertaining, or even useful to anyone outside this household. Still, it is a useful way to resurrect a stalled blog.
It is written by Jennifer and Scott, both of them amateur but dedicated drinkers of wine. When Jennifer signed on to study for a WSET certificate, they decided to start hosting biweekly wine tastings as a sort of homework. Later christened The Humpday Tipples, these Wednesday night affairs soon attracted a core group of friends who like wine and are eager to learn more about it. Jennifer does the research, chooses the wines, and guides the tasting, Scott makes a meal to match the wines, and everyone kicks in a share of the cost of the bottles. They started taking pictures and notes as a record for themselves, but soon realized that they might as well post them on their website so that like-minded people might use them as a template for their own tasting nights. A blog was born. This was all true for the wine nights; unfortunately there’s not a lot of bandwidth these days to go to such lengths.
Jennifer is was a radio producer by day and a student at the International Wine Center by night [edit: she received her certificate]. Scott is a freelance writer/editor/researcher/photographer and he washes all the glasses.
